Training Goals

As the sophistication of flying weapon systems increases, the need to extensively train the crew grows in order to ensure, control and use of these complex systems. This goal can only be achieved by intensively using high quality simulators. This ensures:

- an increase in the training quality
- saving of real flight hours
- a reduction in training duration
- the protection of the environment.

The flight training of the army, air force and navy pilots operating the NH90 is centralized at the Army Aviation School in Bückeburg.
In that context, the first training step involves obtaining a type rating for the NH90. The biggest part of this training stage takes place in the two flight simulators on-site. The crews learn to operate the helicopter in the simulator. A particular focus is the intensive training of emergency situations that are due to malfunctions or system failures.

After obtaining the type rating for the NH90, the tactical training of the crews commences. During this stage the use of the simulators is indispensable, as hostile scenarios can only be generated by means of the simulator. The crews gain the experience for completing such threat-encountering flights with a maximum level of safety by means of sensors, with and without external loads, during all types of weather conditions and in daytime as well as at night.
The two NH90 simulators of the squadrons in Faßberg and Holzdorf are used to deepen and update these learned abilities during annual standardizations.
